Emergent games vs closed games

 I’ve loved playing video games since I was a kid. I think Minecraft would have to be my favourite since it’s an emergent game, which is a fancy way of saying an open-world game. Closed games are fun too, I just don’t like how you have to pay so much for a game you can only play a few times. This is the problem I run into with Pokemon but because of the modding community, I can play Pokemon in Minecraft which is an open-world game with the cute little Pokemon. Have you ever played a modded game? If so what did you play and what kind of mods did you use to make your game more fun? Also, what’s your opinion on open work vs closed-world games?
